Consistent care. Thoughtful practice. Individualised support

What is Therapeutic Parenting?

At Prospera, therapeutic parenting is a relationship based approach that helps children and young people heal, grow, and thrive following experiences of trauma, loss, and adversity.

We understand that behaviour is often a form of communication. Rather than focusing solely on behaviours, we seek to understand the feelings and experiences behind them. This enables us to respond with empathy, consistency, and understanding, helping children feel safe, valued, and supported.

Working in partnership with Psyche Health, we embed therapeutic parenting into everyday life, ensuring that every interaction contributes to a child’s emotional wellbeing, development, and sense of belonging.

Why We Chose This Approach to Care and Education

We believe that children achieve their best outcomes when they feel safe, connected, and understood.

Therapeutic parenting allows us to look beyond behaviours and focus on the individual needs of each child. By understanding the impact of trauma and attachment experiences, we create nurturing environments that support emotional wellbeing, resilience, learning, and personal growth.

This approach aligns with our vision of creating a home where everyone finds their place of belonging.

Embracing the PACE model

Playfulness

Acceptance

Curiosity

Empathy

We are proud to be PACE informed across Prospera.

A Playful approach ensures that we are aware of the power of play and can use playfulness in our everyday interactions. We use reflective practice to deepen our understanding of what Acceptance and non-judgment mean. Our style of communication and seeking to understand is why a gentle Curious approach is always helpful. Lastly, we grasp an understanding of what true Empathy means as we try to reflect this in the way we care for and are with children and young people.

Our Therapeutic Parenting Training Programme

In partnership with Psyche Health, all Prospera colleagues receive specialist therapeutic parenting training to ensure they can provide consistent, trauma-informed care.

Our programme focuses on:

  • Understanding trauma and attachment
  • Behaviour as communication
  • The PACE approach (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy)
  • Emotional regulation and co-regulation
  • Building positive relationships
  • Reflective practice and ongoing development

This training ensures our teams have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support children through meaningful relationships and therapeutic care every day.
