Foundations of PACE & Therapeutic Parenting

Our Therapeutic Support

Our multidisciplinary psychology team works closely with Care Teams, Area Managers, Registered Managers, and the Education Team to ensure every child receives consistent, trauma-informed therapeutic support. Our approach at Prospera is grounded in psychological, systemic, and developmental principles that promote safety, recovery, and meaningful change.

We offer a tiered model of support designed to meet the needs of all young people in our care, from universal therapeutic input to specialist assessments and interventions.

level1

Level 1: Core Therapeutic Care

All children and young people at Prospera have access to a strong foundation of therapeutic support, which includes:

  • Psychological input into referrals to ensure robust matching, if requested
  • Ongoing needs-led training for staff teams
  • Oversight and delivery of trauma-informed assessment and formulation
  • Psychoeducation training for staff and young people
  • Support for care teams to embed therapeutic activities into daily routines
  • Monthly psychological consultations with each residential home
  • Participation in care team development and learning days
  • Professional oversight to maintain the integrity of our Therapeutic Parenting programme
This core offer ensures that therapeutic understanding is embedded throughout each home, providing consistent, attachment – and trauma-informed care.

Level 2: Specialist Therapeutic Care - Enhanced Offer

For young people with additional or more complex needs, we can provide specialist input, including:

  • Trauma, mental health, social-emotional developmental assessments
  • Cognitive, executive functioning, adaptive functioning, and memory assessments
  • Specialist forensic psychological risk assessments where there is concern about significant harm
  • Individual therapy packages, including approaches such as ‘Change for Good’ and ‘Violence Is Not The Only Choice (VINTOC)’
  • One to one therapy as informed by the formulation

These interventions help us understand each young person’s experiences in depth and provide targeted support tailored to their unique profile of needs.

Our Range of Individualised Therapies

Our therapeutic provision is delivered by a diverse team including clinical psychologists, forensic psychologists, child and adolescent psychotherapists, trainee psychologists, and therapeutic practitioners. Team members are trained or qualified in delivering a wide range of evidence-based modalities, including Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), EMDR, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (TF-CBT) and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT). This range of therapies enables us to tailor interventions to each young person’s developmental stage, needs, strengths, and learning preferences.

O.'s Story

O joined Prospera in October 2025 following 18 previous placement breakdowns and a history of significant instability, including going missing from home, suicidal behaviours, assaults on staff, damage to property, and risks associated with child sexual exploitation.

Through a therapeutic parenting approach, supported by close collaboration between our care team and internal professionals, O has achieved her longest and most stable placement to date. Since moving into her current home, there have been no missing from home episodes and significant reductions in suicidal behaviours, staff assaults, property damage, and exploitation concerns.

Alongside these improvements, O has reconnected with her grandmother, enjoying regular overnight stays together which have strengthened her sense of belonging and family identity. She has also achieved a number of personal milestones, including joining a local rugby team, enrolling at college, taking her first holiday, contributing to staff recruitment interview panels, and developing the skills needed for semi independent living.

O’s journey highlights the impact of stable relationships, therapeutic care, and a team around the child approach. Her progress demonstrates what can be achieved when young people are supported to feel safe, valued, and empowered to build a positive future.
