Therapeutic Approach
Layered therapeutic support that grows with each young person’s needs
Introduction
Our therapeutic approach at Prospera Group is trauma-informed, attachment-aware and guided by psychological insight. We work in partnership with specialist psychological consultancy services to ensure that care within our homes is not only safe and structured, but also emotionally informed and developmentally appropriate. Our model combines therapeutic parenting, reflective practice and psychological consultation to create an environment where young people can develop trust, stability and resilience.
Support is delivered through a structured three-tier framework. This ensures that therapeutic care is embedded in daily practice while also providing access to enhanced and specialist interventions when additional needs are identified.
Tier One – Everyday Therapeutic Care
Tier One forms the foundation of our therapeutic model and reflects the everyday care young people receive within Prospera homes. Therapeutic principles are embedded into daily routines, relationships and communication between staff and young people.
Key elements of Tier One include:
- Therapeutic parenting training and workshops for staff
- Ongoing psychological consultancy to guide care planning and decision making Reflective practice sessions that support staff to understand behaviour through a trauma and attachment lens
- Training in understanding child development, trauma responses and emotional regulation
- Use of therapeutic approaches such as PACE, appropriate boundary setting and therapeutic language
- Monthly consultation and team support to reflect on practice and strengthen care delivery
- By embedding these principles into everyday care, staff are equipped to respond consistently and thoughtfully to the emotional and developmental needs of each young person.
Tier Two – Enhanced Support
When additional needs or concerns are identified, Tier Two provides targeted support to better understand and respond to a young person’s experiences, behaviours and emotional wellbeing.
Enhanced support may include:
- Mental health and trauma-informed psychological assessments
- Cognitive and adaptive functioning assessments
Informed interventions designed to strengthen relationships and emotional security - Bespoke staff workshops tailored to the specific risks, needs and developmental profile of the young person
- This level of support allows psychological understanding to directly inform care planning, helping staff adapt their approach in ways that promote stability, emotional growth and positive engagement.
Tier Three – Specialist Intervention
For young people with more complex needs, Tier Three provides access to specialist psychological expertise and intervention.
Specialist support may include:
- Forensic psychological risk assessments where behaviours present significant risk
- Specialist therapeutic interventions and individual therapy
- Consultancy projects addressing complex clinical or organisational needs
- This level of intervention ensures that complex situations are supported by professional psychological expertise while maintaining consistency with the young person’s overall care plan.
How This Supports Young People at Prospera
Our therapeutic framework ensures that support is layered, responsive and personalised. Everyday care within the home remains the foundation, while access to enhanced and specialist intervention ensures that additional needs are addressed thoughtfully and professionally.
This approach helps ensure that psychological understanding informs practice, staff development is ongoing and young people receive care that supports emotional development, stability and positive future pathways.
